“Where sin did abound the grace of God does much more abound.” (Romans 5-8)
Sometimes a sinner will make a comment and not really mean it or even believe it. I think this is one of those times and one of those statements. Still it is said enough times but enough pesons that it is worth our discussing it. I think when most persons say such a thing they believe the humour in it will change the subject. Believers, let us not be redirected by such a comment but instead let’s use it to teach a main doctrine of our faith, namely “Where sin did abound, grace does much more abound.”
The (4) four most important words in this passage of Scripture are, “did” and “did much more.” With these words we learn and teach that at one point in the lost man’s history sin, it’s penalty, it’s power, and it’s pleasure did abound in his life. This word, “did,” states that the sinner was a servant of sin and that his free will was not free at all but was totally sub-serviant to the abounding lordship of sin. The next (3) three words, “does much more…” proclaims the great doctrine that God’s grace “does much more…” The word, “does,” declares that the power of God’s abounding grace is currently and presently greater than the power of sin was when it “did” abound it the past. The following (2) two words, “much more,” demonstrates that the current age of God’s grace abounds, “much more” than the past age of sin’s lordship over lost man.
Having made the last statement however, does not mean that every person lives in the state of God’s much more abounding grace. It states that God’s abounding grace that is much more powerful is open to all that will enter in to it through repentantance and belief. There are yet many, many sinners that are still under abounding sin. These persons are still under sin and it’s power, penalty, and pleasure. Sin is still their master and they still operate under sin’s lordship.
To say that a church would cave in if one entered it is very foolish and is offensive to God and the doctrine we are discussing. No church has, will, or can fall down if a great sinner were to enter. We are told in Hebrews 1 that Christ upholds all things, iE. all things in the universe and that includes the church. Christ, Himself teaches us that the very gates of hell shall not prevail against the church. Further more, paul states in his letter to the Corinthian church that many teachers and preachers are actually (s)atan’s ministers transformed in to angel’s of light. In other words many church ministers are in league with the devil, whether they know it or not!!!
Other truths from Scripture that diminish yet destroys this ridiculous comment and excuse are, The Book of Acts tells us that Christ died to establish and to keep the Church as an agent of righteousness. For one to then suggest that it would fall down due to one’s sin is to belittle the death, resurrection and power of the living Christ…what blasphemy!!! Another argument against foolishness is the fact that God is sovereign and nothing, no nothing can stop or stay His Hand and Reign over all things, including the church. To state such a Scriptural doctrine of God’s Might, Sovereignty, and Strength is to go against God Himself!!!
Therefore, to state such foolishness and blasphemy is to go up againt Scripture, sound doctrine, and the Triune God, Himself.
To the sinner yet under the penalty, power, and pleasure of the sin that abounds over you, Today is the day, now is the time…Repent of all you sin, renounce it today and believe in God and the power of His Abounding grace or remain under sins curse and perich in your sins. Your humour may change the subject with some Christ-ians but it will not disuade the anger, fury, and wrath of the Christ-ian God when the age of abounding grace soon comes to it’s end. Soon your opportunity to live in and under abounding grace will come to a close. Soon any hope will end. Your time of finding God will end, as your end and eternal destruction will come nigh. Your everlasting torment in hell and outside the mercy of God will begin without an end.
Christ-ian,
Let us never forget to be thanful and we enjoy God’s grace that does much more abound than did abounding sine once did.
Sinner,
You have only (2) two options, 1. the Lordship of Christ and His abounding and saving grace or 2. the lordship of sin and eternal torment. I beseech thee as does sound Biblical truth and doctrine….”Choose you this day whom you will serve…”
Godspeed and once again, please overlook any spelling and/or grammatical errors.
