“…Imaginations…”  ( Part of 2 Corinthians 10:5)

 

Have you ever wondered why some Christ-ians enjoy or are drawn to, what some would call, questionable interests at best and dark hobbies at worst?

For example, from one of the titles above, I have enjoyed watching the bad guys in Wrestling and in others genres. I enjoy BatMan, which is a darker fiction. I also enjoy murder mysteries, books and television programs  (My eldest daughter gave my wife and I a gift card to a Mystery murder dinner for Christmas…the Game is a FOOt!!!) In fact, there are not many things more comfortable and cozy, humanly speaking, than sitting under a thick blanket and binge watching or reading a crime or murder mystery show or book.

Another topic I study is serial murder. I read and study those that murder as a compulsion.  Why would a born again child of God want to watch, read, or study such material?  Why would many Christ-ians enjoy these things?

As I said in another (1) one of my titles above, I’m not a psychologist but I play one in my mind.  However, methinks we have an answer or at least a supposal, as Lewis would put it, or a hypothesis as a logician would put it.

We are drawn, or at least some, if not many of us are drawn to darker things because our Lord and Saviour was and Is!!!  Was not our Lord and Master drawn to the darkness and evil that is you and me? Therefore, you and i are drawn to darkness as well.  Christ was drawn to darkness and evil so that He might draw darkness and evil to the Light, that is Himself.

Another reason we, the children of Light, are drawn to the dark is because we want the darkness to be defeated and justice and righteousness to prevail.

If the Children of Light are not intrinsically drawn to the darkness, who will bring the darkness to the Light.

An analogy: We watch movies and we know the ending but while we are watching we are hoping the end might be different.

Our Great God is Lord and Master of both the Light and the dark. As children of the Light we never walk in darkness as part of that darkness but we are the light in that darkness and our shield of faith shall ever protect us.
