“Go With Him Twain” Or “Going Out Of Your Way For Another” Or “Christ-ianity 101: The Basics”

“And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.”

Messengers from the king or a king’s representative could compel or force or command another to walk with him for a mile as this representative started his way home. Christ says to His listeners to willingly go a second mile with him. I doubt anyone would do this today but the Word of Christ still stands as Heaven and Earth shall fall before His Word will.

Today we might call it going out of one’s way for another…especially when it is not convenient. If it is convenient, it isn’t going out of your way is it? The Christ-ian should go out of his way to please and help others…this is basic Christ-ianity. I have taught my daughters to leave persons and places better than they found it. This can be as simple as picking up a piece of debris in a parking lot or telling someone they look nice.

Paul said that he endured all that suffered for the elect’s sake. These are listed in his second epistle to the Corinthians. They are as follows:
*In labours more abundant.
*In stripes above measure.
*In prison more frequent.
*In deaths oft.
*Of the Jews five times I received stripes save one.
*Thrice was I beaten with rods.
*Once was I stoned.
*Thrice I suffered shipwreck.
*A night and a day I have been in the deep.
*In journeyings often.
*In perils of water.
*In perils of Robbers, of mine own countrymen, of the heathen, in the city, in the wilderness, in the seas, of false brethren…
*In weariness and painfulness.
*In watchings often.
*In hunger and thirst.
*In fastings often.
*In cold and nakedness.
*The care of all the churches.

Our Apostle knows how to go out of his way for you. Do you know how to go out of your way for others?  Do you go out of your way for others?  Did not the Lord Jesus go out of His way for you? Christ-likeness is doing likewise.

Godspeed.
